Bargello on a Diagonal & Bargello with Alternating Rows of Scotch Stitches

We used these stitches for the body of the Moo Cow in this fun piece from A Collection of Designs.

Now, for the stitches!

Before we turn Bargello on its side and work it on the diagonal, let's take a look at traditional Bargello.  The pattern shown below is a typical one.

Basic Bargello

See what happens when we work these stitches on the diagonal of the canvas:

Diagonal Bargello

Finally, for interest, let's offset the consecutive rows of stitches and fill in with Scotch stitches.

Diagonal Bargello with Alternating Rows of Scotch Stitches

To achieve a look similar to that on our cow, use a silk or pearl cotton for the diagonal Bargello stitches (black lines) and a sparkle-type thread for the Scotch stitches (white lines).
