The basic Hungarian stitch has endless variations.  The background of the rooster is stitched using one such variation, using two threads in the same color, but with different compositions.

We used Kreinik metallic braid for the Hungarian stitch units (black lines on chart) and floss for the surrounding diamond lattice (white lines).
